- Potlako Bogatsu BG reporter

Miss World Africa Lesego Chombo has inspired Forbes Under 30 Summit delegates to use their talents to unlock further opportunities for themselves.

Speaking at the Forbes 30 Under 30 Summit in Botswana, Chombo told attendees that her talent has helped her become the beaming star that she is. An attorney by profession, she explained that it is her talent that has opened the international door for her, and by virtue of being a beauty queen she has a stature that has placed her in places that education would never have taken her.

She said that it is crucial for young people to actively cultivate their talents for a better life as she holds the rm belief that talent can bolster the economic growth of a country.

Chombo said that investment is key. She noted that one’s talent should not just be hobbies, but something that can propel one to greater economic success. She said that her journey to Miss World started seven years ago when she needed to do a lot of investment in herself.

She said that the thing that sets people apart is nding the right vehicle to showcase that talent, citing that she chose pageantry as a way to showcase her talent. Chombo said that commercialising one’s talent is key. She criticised the talented people that are unable to commercialise their talent. She said that it is important to build a brand around one’s talent, identify target audiences and platforms that generate revenue and leverage on social media, endorsements and collaboration.

Chombo said that it is important for one to align one’s talent to the value system of the economy. If someone can answer how their talent is important to the value system of the society then they will be able to forge partnerships with key stakeholders and organisations that matter.
