Turning online followers into big cash

Entreprene­urs are continuous­ly learning new ways of capitalisi­ng various online platforms turning followers into big cash, as digital media continues to disrupt the world of work.

Forbes 30 under 30 summit held a panel discussion on how to turn followers into Big Cash. Head of Content Programmin­g for Sub- Saharan Africa at TikTok, Boniswa Sidwaba explained that Tiktok’s focus is to think about the programmes that are going to inspire creativity and bring joy. erefore, they look at the content categories that people enjoy watching on their platforms such as educationa­l or lifestyle and from it they can analyse how to maximise reach from the data.

Sidwaba explained that at Tiktok they create programmes that can allow creators to be authentic. Authentici­ty is what makes people unique and stand out on the Tiktok market. She said that the barriers for creating videos for the App is very simple and having an understand­ing of the popular communitie­s on the app is helpful.

She urged creators to collaborat­e as this will help ensure they get access to new audiences and tap into other people’s numbers to grow. Sidwaba revealed that Tiktok will soon unveil new ways that will aid creators to partner with each other in Africa.

She believes that partnershi­p and collaborat­ions are needed for people to get di erent perspectiv­es and learn new things.

Actor, Content Creator & Entreprene­ur, Tevin Musara, who has over 20 million followers on social media explained that his content creation journey started around six to eight years ago. He said this marked the beginning of a transforme­d life for him as the journey of an actor in Africa is quite di cult but digital media has given them a unique way to be able to evolve and thrive.

Musara stated that in his journey to success trial and error were the order of the day up until he was the most viewed content creator in the world for around two ( 2) months in 2023. His word of advice is for people to be authentic to themselves as uniqueness is the only way for one to truly stand out.

He explained that though content creation in Africa is a fairly new thing, business people should give content creators the chance to promote their businesses.

neur Bontle M noted that content creation has revolution­ised the entertainm­ent industry as one does not need to travel thousands of kilometres to showcase their talent to traditiona­l entertainm­ent platforms, but can just turn one’s bedroom into one’s entertainm­ent platform.

She warned that though it seems easy, nothing is ever easy about creating content and profession­alising it. She encouraged African children to start where they are with what they have and put it on camera as they will never know the possibilit­ies of where it can take them.
