Speaking to Botswana Guardian, Obonetse Botumile, BOTESSA’s Marketing and Publicity representative, revealed that the recently concluded CUCSA trials saw a record- breaking number of student- athletes from over 27 tertiary institutions vying for quali cation.
Botumile highlighted that the team performed admirably in the eld events, with many student- athletes clocking their personal bests and season bests.
While BOTESSA bears the responsibility of selecting and managing the team, the nancial burden of the CUCSA trip will be shouldered by the respective tertiary institutions.
Speaking on the issue, Botumile noted: “We primarily rely on the institutions to cover the costs for their students who have quali ed for the games. However, we also seek sponsorship opportunities from other organizations to alleviate some of the nancial burden on the institutions.”
Emphasizing the importance of unity and collaboration in nurturing sports talent among tertiary students, Obonetse Botumile made a heartfelt appeal to all Botswana universities and colleges to a liate with BOTESSA.
He explained: “Our goal is to ensure that students from all corners of the country have an equal opportunity to participate in these competitions and bene t from the exposure that comes with them. By a liating with BOTESSA, tertiary institutions can play a pivotal role in providing their students with a platform that can potentially transform their athletic careers and enhance their personal and professional growth.”
BOTESSA’s plans for continued progress in tertiary sports are well underway, with the organization hosting a series of CUCSA selection games for basketball, volleyball, netball, football, chess, and table tennis over the weekend at the University of Botswana’s courts. is move is designed to identify the best athletes from across the country’s tertiary institutions, assembling a national team to represent Botswana in the CUCSA ball games later this year. e objective is to create a formidable squad that will compete at the highest level and showcase the country’s best athletic talent on the regional stage.
