BOTESSA selects a record 13 for regional games
The trials involved students from 27 tertiary institutions in the country
Botswana Tertiary Sports Association ( BOTESSA) has selected 13 athletes from various universities and colleges, who have earned quali cation for the Confederation of University and College Sports Associations ( CUCSA) games. The annual event, taking place from July 8th to 12th in Pretoria, South Africa, will see the country’s top young athletes representing their institutions in a range of sports disciplines.
The CUCSA game s , a significant event on the African tertiary sports calendar, provide an opportunity for talented athletes to showcase their skills, compete at an international level, and potentially even attract the attention of professional scouts.
Botswana will be joining six other member countries at the CUCSA competitions this year: South Africa, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, and Lesotho. This regional competition, which is a major highlight on the African tertiary sports calendar, will bring together the best student- athletes from across southern Africa to compete in various disciplines.
CUCSA was established in 1989 with the primary aim of fostering sports development in member countries. e organization’s founding vision was to create an environment where sportsmanship, excellence, and camaraderie could ourish, both on and o the playing eld.
To achieve this, CUCSA strives to facilitate regular training programs and competitions that challenge athletes to improve their skills, while also fostering networking opportunities among students and staff. This unique combination of athletic and cultural exchange is intended to strengthen ties between the member countries and promote unity within the region.
In the lead- up to the CUCSA games, Botswana has emerged as a competitive force across mult ipl e disciplines, with a total of thirteen athletes qualifying for the highly anticipated event.
