Tiaan’s Camp

Xhumaga (sometimes spelled Khumaga) will be on your route if you’re driving through central Botswana to the north, from Serowe via Orapa to Maun.

Tiaan’s Camp is on the banks of the Boteti River, but outside the Makgadikga­di National Park, so you don’t have to pay park fees if you just want to spend the night.

Camping P110 (R145) per person; chalet accommodat­ion from P940 (R1 235) per night for two people. The rates decrease if you book three or more nights. Meals are available. You can do day outings to Makgadikga­di, Central Kalahari Game Reserve and Nxai Pan National Park. If you don’t have your own 4x4, go on a tour with Tiaan himself. Kumaga

This camp is inside the Makgadikga­di National Park, managed by the SKL Group. It’s also next to the Boteti River and near the entrance to the park, situated close to the village of Xhumaga.

To enter the park at Xhumaga you have to cross the Boteti: Sometimes the water level is low enough to drive through, at other times you might have to use the pont.

The campsite has 10 stands: R250 per adult; R125 per child aged 8 – 17; R60 per child aged 5 – 7; free for children under 5. Park fees P120 (R158) per adult per day; P60 (R79) per child aged 8 – 17; plus P50 (R66) per vehicle per day.
