- MOMPATI TLHANKANE Staff Writer

After hosting its online shows on social media for free during the most part of the lockdown period, the performing arts sector will finally get a chance to get paid for content as FNBB called for submissions which will see the winner walk away with a sponsorship valued at P25, 000.

FNBB will sponsor five online music shows at P25, 000 each therefore producers can submit their profiles and recorded files to csi@fnbbotswana.co.bw no later than May 22, 2020.The duration of the show should be three hours and a selected FNBB Committee will review submissions and evaluate them in accordance with creativity, quality, diversity of music genres covered and economic impact to other artists.

The online show will benefit a lot of music promoters who had to cancel a lot of their events in March as a result of the pandemic.

Also, in the music sector FNBB announced they have partnered with a local radio station to run a music show where artists will be challenged to record and submit songs that have an underlying message on the COVID-19 pandemic.

“A committee comprising of members from both the bank and the radio station will evaluate the submissions for shortlisting. Shortlisting of songs will be based on submissions received per music genre. Shortlisted songs will be entered into a competition where the top three songs will be rewarded as follows: First Prize P25, 000,

Second Prize P15, 000 and Third Prize P10, 000. Further details of the show including the submission process will be announced on Radio and Social Media,” FNBB announced in a press release.

FNBB will also sponsor four successful choreographers to facilitate and host online dance tutorials valued at P8, 500 each.

The tutorials will run from June 05 to June 26 targeted at various dance categories. Tutorial participants will be watch, learn the routines and later upload videos on social media using the defined hashtags #FNBBDance #SupportCreativeArts. It is not only musicians, choreographers and promoters who will benefit but FNBB has also extended sponsorship for two online poetry sessions each valued at P25, 000.

The theme of the poetry sessions will be Impact of Covid-19 on the Creative Arts. The duration of the show should be two hours and the selected FNBB Committee will review submissions and evaluate in accordance with structure of the poem, creativity and story line.

With a lot of comedians keeping people entertained during the show, it was only relevant for them to be included as well. Comedians are therefore required to submit skits not exceeding five minutes. A total of 20 skits will be awarded P2, 500 each for their contents being featured on the show.

According to the requirements, the skits should be relevant to a chosen topic; life under lockdown and emphasise that there is a laughable side to lockdown.

“Share your five minutes skits on social media (Facebook) using the following hashtags; #FNBBComedy #SupportCreativeArts. Upload or share your skits on your Facebook profile, no later than May 29, 2020. The idea is to reach out to as many artists as possible, and for each person to benefit from their content being used”.

For music, dance and poetry online shows, FNBB has revealed that interested participants can submit their profiles and recorded files to csi@fnbbotswana.co.bw no later than May 29, 2020. Furthermore, the initiative is open to Botswana citizens only and the content remains the intellectual property of the artist post the competition.

“At times like these we need the arts and culture more than ever. Singing unites us, dancing keeps us active.

Each one of the activities that we have identified will help mitigate COVID-19 social impact and demonstrate how the arts, culture and fashion play a role in, public health, social cohesion and resilience,” FNBB Director of Marketing and Communications, Peo Porogo revealed in a press release.
