Netball strives to ensure compliance
Botswana Netball Association (BONA) has not carried out an audit on the 2017 Netball Youth World Cup, as the association awaits funding from the Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) to conduct the process.
BONA president, Malebo Raditladi said they have long been waiting for BNSC to source funds for the audit. She said while waiting, they were busy putting their house in order and affiliates are on-board.
Netball has faced a myriad of challenges in the recent past, with the national league having last played in 2017.
Compliance at the Registrar of Societies (ROS) remains a sore thumb for BONA affiliates.
Southern zone spokesperson, Mmabatho Pilane told Mmegi Sport that they were still trying to get affiliates to comply with ROS before the outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19). She said a deadline was set in February for all clubs to have complied.
“Some clubs such as Notwane have always been compliant because they have a mother body, but it is a challenge for others.
There are some clubs that managed to comply and others are struggling to understand how the process works, so we had a meeting, which was meant to offer an explanation. We hope that when things get back to normal, the process would continue,” she said.
Raditladi said the role to ensure compliance has been delegated to zonal committees.
She said they have received positive reports that affiliates are keen to comply, and some could have submitted documents had it not been for the lockdown. She believes the process would be complete after the lockdown. Raditladi said compliance was a new thing for most affiliates hence the association is trying by all means to educate them.
She said they cannot strike clubs off the BONA register, but rather have them as associate members of the association up until they comply and become full members. She said the affiliates have welcomed the regulation and they deserve to be given enough time to make submissions to the ROS.
“BONA executive committee and zonal committees are in discussion on proposals made with regard to policies to ensure that we use this time to revise our documents together so that when we open we get them adopted and get our administration in order,” she said.
Raditladi said the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic came at a time when BONA was trying to put its house in order.
She said they were waiting for the government to announce when they could resume activities and the regulations that would be put in place for sport.
She said they were also waiting for Africa Netball (AN) on the new updates for World Cup qualifiers.
Raditladi said the sport fraternity should come together and discuss ways of coming out of the COVID-19 crisis. She said it was important to come up with solutions to save sport.
