BFA to retrench

The Botswana Football Association (BFA) has confirmed it will begin a restructuring exercise, which could result in job losses. Mmegi Sport ran a report early this month that new BFA chief executive officer, Goabaone Taylor had recommended a staff shake-up.

While Taylor denied the reports at the time, yesterday the BFA issued a media release confirming there will be a restructuring exercise.

“It is the nature of the restructuring exercise, it might result in retrenchments or redeployments,” she said, in response to a Mmegi Sport question if the exercise would result in job losses.

“The main reason for the restructuring is to make sure the organisation is efficient, and also align with best practices,” Taylor said.

She expects the exercise to be completed in the next six months.

The BFA statement added the soccer mother body has decided to restructure the secretariat, mainly to align to best practices that can improve operational efficiencies and effectiveness.

The restructuring exercise is expected to result in a simplified yet professional functional structure, the BFA said. The statement revealed the exercise started as far back as 2015 and revisited several times in 2017, 2018 and the earlier part of 2021, and in March to be precise.
