Okaile favourite for top Gunners post

Former Gaborone United (GU) chairperson, Rapula Okaile looks set to become the new leader at Extension Gunners when the Peleng giants usher in a new executive committee during their annual general meeting (AGM) tomorrow. The meeting was scheduled to take place on July 24, 2021, but a decision was reached to postpone by two weeks due to escalating COVID-19 cases across the country.

As things stand, no other candidate has raised their hand to challenge Okaile for the position. According to the list released this week, Okaile remains unopposed for the position. The list, however, is reportedly set to go through a vetting process before it is finalised at a meeting before elections take place.

Following the postponement of the meeting two weeks ago, the club opened supplementary submissions for those willing to contest for positions in the executive committee. The previous deadline for submission was initially set for July 13. However, the executive committee later agreed to extend the deadline to July 31.

For the position of vice-chairperson, trade unionist, Ketlhalefile Motshegwa has raised his hand together with club legend, Isaac Ncenga. The position is currently held by Ian Kebopetswe. Club secretary, Edwin Mabapa is also set to retain his position.

He is the only candidate interested in the post up to now. Benson Mere and Kelebogile Motladile will battle it out for the position of vice secretary while Odirile Phoga and Tshoganetso Same have shown interest in holding the club’s purse.

Communications manager, Gerald Mahumba is seeking another term in office but faces contest from Oarabile Kgosiesele. Club legend, Naphtally ‘Scara’ Kebalepile is eyeing the team manager’s post but will have to garner more votes than another aspiring office bearer, Bruno Masisi. Tsholofelo Kgaodi and Mpho Nkadimang will contest the welfare manager’s position while Tlhatloso Tau and Brian Ketshabile want the position of marketing manager. Meanwhile, Gunners players returned to training this week following a long break from football activities. Several Premier League sides have begun their pre-season training ahead of the new season set to start next month.
