Kwa Nokeng Oil takes part in the Kazungula marathon

The energy company, Kwa Nokeng Oil was part of companies that participat­ed in the just ended inaugural Kazungula FNB Marathon which was held over the weekend at resort town, Kasane.

The sport event attracted more than 3000 spectators from local, region and internatio­nal to witness the inaugural marathon.

Top athletes from African countries such as Kenya, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Zambia headlined the event. Botswana Olympic silverware, Isaac Makwala also took part in the marathon.

Of course, the largest majority citizen owned petroleum distributi­on company in Botswana, Kwa Nokeng Oil had the physical presence being felt at the marathon.

More than 30 people from Kwa Nokeng Oil participat­ed in the marathon, including the top boss, CEO and General Managers. The CEO Mahube Mpugwa and the GM Dickson Nyepi participat­ed and completed the 21km race, 10 in the 10km race and the rest participat­ed in the 5km race and only one from Kazungula deport participat­ed in the 42.2 km race.

The Chief Executive Officer of Kwa Nokeng Oil, Mahube Mpugwa said that the company is happy to have partnered with organizers of Kazungula marathon.

He added that it is also great event for the company as they have a physical presence in this area especially Kazungula and Pandamaten­ga.

Mpugwa highlighte­d that it is important that as a company, they need to support this kind of event as they contribute to community on social and economic developmen­t. He further stressed that ‘for this event, as you know this region has been battered by devastatin­g impact of coronaviru­s and its another way of resuscitat­ing the tourism sector in this particular part of the country and that’s why it was vital for Kwa Nokeng Oil to have a physical presence in this event,’ he stated

He added that at Kwa Nokeng Oil they encourage healthy living that’s why most of the team participat­ed in the marathon. He also assured that they will be more participat­ion from the company next year.

The CEO further highlighte­d that the company has presence almost across the country but they take pride in their operations in the Chobe District. Their largest depot is located in Kazungula, which is the largest in Southern Africa was opened last year.

‘We can refuel 16 trucks at a go, so we are quite proud of what we have here because Kazungula is the gate-away to the rest of SADC countries, so for us to be facilitati­ng the movement into the rest of SADC region really find it to be a major thing for our company and our contributi­on to the whole of the region, he stressed.

Meanwhile, many dignitarie­s from different parastatal­s, corporate and government ministry graced the event.

Hon Minister of Youth Empowermen­t, Sport and Culture Developmen­t, Tumiso Rakgare, Hon Minister of Environmen­t, Natural Resources Conservati­on and Tourism, Mabuse Pule, Hon Minister of Empowermen­t Labour Productivi­ty and Skills Developmen­t, Ronald Shamukuni and Assistant Minister of Youth Empowermen­t Sport and Culture Developmen­t, Buti Billy also participat­ed in the marathon.
