CSC&EC gives back to Mahalapye community as part of its CSI
Water shortage is now a thing of the past in Mahalapye Sub-District thanks to the recently completed 18 mega liters water treatment project, which China State Construction and Engineering Corporation (CSC&EC) handed over to Mahalapye community early this week.
CSC&EC Managing Director Jiguo Yao accompanied by his team and Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) officials, who have been operating the plant since February, handed the project to the community which was represented by the sub-district and Kgosi Tshipe Tshipe.
Design, supply, installation, construction and commissioning of Mahalapye Water Treatment Plant began in the June 2019, and was handed over to WUC early this year in February. Completion means Mahalapye will now pump 34ML of water each day as opposed to 16ML of the existing old treatment plant. The project was hailed as one of the few that were ever completed on time and within budget. But that’s not all the Chinese company which has been part of building Botswana infrastructure since 1988 when it was registered in the country, is leaving behind. While handing over the water treatment project CSC&EC also gave back to the Mahalapye community as part of their corporate social responsibility(CSR). Mahalapye Showground not only got a facelift, but a sow shelter and ablution block were constructed and connected to the sewerage network. Furthermore, CSC&EC cleared the way to improve access to the show venue and connected the place to the power grid.
CSC&EC has done over 125 buildings and Civil Engineering projects in Botswana for both the government and private sector since it came to construct the Chinese Embassy to Botswana in Gaborone. On the CSR side it has contributed to the Presidential housing Appeal by building houses for the needy people. Furthermore they have provided sponsorship to Batswana students for Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering in China while also partnering with Faculty of Engineering at local Universities and colleges for Civil Engineering internship.
