BFA awaits official report on Tholakele, Mochawe

- BOITUMELO KHUTSAFALO Staff Writer

The Botswana Football Association (BFA) CEO, Mfolo Mfolo has said they are aware of reports about the unceremonious return of two Mares players, Kesegofetse Mochawe and Refilwe Tholakele from Equatorial Guinea.

However, the mother body can only comment on the matter after it receives official communication from the players’ club, Malabo Kings. Mochawe and Tholakele joined Malabo FC in August this year from Prisons XI and Township Rollers respectively but are said to have made a quick return to the country citing unfair treatment from their new club.

They both signed one-year contracts and reports are that Malabo Kings are likely to write to the BFA complaining about the players’ return without the club’s permission. However, Mfolo said they have not received any official correspondence from the Malabo Kings but have come across the reports.

“We have come across those reports as well, however, we are constrained to comment until we receive official correspondence from Malabo Kings,” he said. The players have reportedly complained about issues surrounding their salaries and accommodation.

Tholakele was among the outstanding players when the Mares made their maiden appearance at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco in July. Her move to Equatorial Guinea side faced some challenges initially when her former club, Rollers announced that they had reached an agreement with Malabo Kings only for her family to reject the move.

At the time, her family cited health conditions as the reason for rejecting the move to the Central African country. The move eventually materialised making both her and Mochawe the first Botswana players to play in Equatorial Guinea.
