Chiefs’ rival camp to hold meeting amid threats
Mochudi Centre Chiefs executive committee representing the society has said the special general meeting scheduled for tomorrow will go ahead as planned despite threats from the rival camp. The meeting is set to take place at Segale Primary School in Mochudi where supporters are to be briefed on the current status of the club.
The meeting comes in the wake of a legal tussle in which two parallel management committees are fighting for control of the club.
The two camps, the society and the company (Mochudi Centre Chiefs (Pty) Ltd), have been communicating with the supporters through two different social media pages, leaving scores of Magosi fans confused.
On Monday, the chairperson from the society’s side, Victor Kobe released a statement confirming tomorrow’s meeting in which he said the supporters will be updated on the current impasse between the two camps, currently before the courts. However, on the same day, the company also released a statement calling the invitation letter “fake” and pleaded with the supporters to ignore the media release.
“Please note there is a false advert circulating around bearing our trademark (logo).
The club is yet to convene a public gathering for the developments of the 2022-23 season. In the meantime treat circulating pieces as malicious and fraudulent.
The club also notifies the stakeholders and general public that it has no office bearer in the name of Victor Kobe. We will launch a probe into the matter and deal with the culprits through appropriate channels,” a statement from the company read.
Speaking to Mmegi Sport yesterday, Kobe said the meeting will go ahead adding that they do not get any instructions from “the so-called directors”.
He said they are not associated with the company in any way, and that the actions of the directors do not represent the society’s intent. “The meeting is called by the society and we should note that all company shareholders are not members of the society and therefore don’t have authority over the sporting club activities,” Kobe said yesterday.
The company last week scored one against the society when the High Court in Lobatse ruled that the matter between the two rival camps was not urgent.
The society through its leadership has filed a case before the courts questioning the legitimacy of the company currently running the affairs of the club.
Their argument is that certain procedures were not followed during the transformation process into a company and want everything to return to its initial form. The meeting is scheduled to start at 9am.
