The Honourable Minister of Agriculture, Mr
Fidelis Molao, has appointed Professor
Ketlhatlogile Mosepele as the second Vice
Chancellor of the Botswana
Agriculture and Natural Resources for a period of five years with effect from the 1st
November 2022.
Professor Mosepele joined the Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources as a Professor of Wildlife and Aquatic Sciences in June 2020. He was appointed the inaugural and founding Head of Department of Wildlife and Aquatic Sciences from April 2021, the position he is holding to date.
Prior to joining Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Professor Mosepele was a Professor of Fisheries Biology and Management and Deputy Director of the Okavango Research Institute, University of Botswana. He served in various Senior Management capacities for a period of eight years. Before joining the University of Botswana in June 2002 as a Research Fellow, Professor Mosepele served as Fisheries Research Officer from October 1996 to May 2002 in the Ministry of Agriculture, Republic of Botswana.
The incoming Vice Chancellor is an internationally renowned Fisheries Biology scholar having published his extensive and impactful research in internationally recognised journals. Professor Mosepele has attracted international research funding and won institutional consultancies of national and ecological importance, among others the recently completed Review of the Okavango Development Management Plan (ODMP). He has also graduated three (3) PhD and five (5) Masters students over the years and currently has three (3) students undertaking research.
He is a Member of the Southern African Society of Aquatic Scientists (SASAqS), IUCN Commission on Ecosystem Management (CEM) and the American Fisheries Society (AFS).
Professor Mosepele is the Interim Board Chairman and Independent Non-Executive Director of the Botswana Accountancy College where he is also a Member of the Human Resources Committee.
Professor Mosepele’s academic qualifications include Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Fisheries Biology and Management from the University of Bergen, Norway; Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Fisheries Biology and Management from the University of Bergen, Norway and Bachelor of Science (BS) in Agriculture majoring in Fisheries Science from the New Mexico State University, United States.
