Camel’s Inn Lodge revives Kwa Isong

- LARONA MAKHAIZA Correspondent

After recently rising from the ashes, Camel’s Inn Lodge is now targeting the revival of one of its popular engagements, Kwa Isong Cultural Festival. With the owners picking up the pieces to bring the groove back to the place, they have scheduled to host Kwa Isong Cultural Festival on November 26, 2022 in Mmopane.

The festival, which offers patrons a chance to enjoy traditional music and local cuisine, was last hosted in 2019 before being halted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Speaking during a press conference to announce the re-launch of the festival, Camel’s Inn Lodge Managing Director, Barudi Mosimaneotsile said they are happy to host this event once again after a three-year hiatus.

Mosimaneotsile explained that the event plans on preserving culture and ensures that it does not go extinct. She said the event will also get the revellers into the festive mood as they intend to give them their money’s worth better than the previous editions.

“When we came up with the Kwa Isong name, we looked at many words that we can use and Kwa Isong sounded just right as it means a place where people gather there around and if

you go down the memory lane, you all would remember that is a place that was mainly used to transfer our cultural practices as our grandparents taught us and told us tales of everything we needed to know about our own cultures,” she added.

The organisers have lined up a list of decorated artists to entertain revellers during the festival. The list is led by Jazz maestro, Socca Moruakgomo, traditional music artist Ditiro Leero, Mafitlhakgosi traditional dance, and Gata-LaTau traditional dance.

Moruakgomo is a well renowned artist who has travelled the world giving people good music

of jazz while Leero will serve Batswana with rich Setswana traditional songs like Semakaleng, Mmalebopo and many others. Mafitlhakgosi and Gata-La-Tau are also traditional dance groups who are versatile and have been in the industry for many years. For his part, Leero said people should not just think these four acts on the lineup are the only ones who will be present on the day.

He said they intend to bring along other associate groups to share the stage with them such as Matsieng. Tickets for the event sell for P100 standard, double ticket is P150, kids P50, while corporate tickets sell for P2,000 for 10 people.
