Jam’n Soul brings Llyoiso
Owned and curated by young minds, Jam’n Soul is fast gaining momentum as one of the most sort after events in the city. The event is scheduled for December 11 at Wagga Gardens.
The event, which started off as an intimate session hosting a maximum of 50 people, has now grown in leaps and bounds with over a thousand music and fashion lovers attending the show. This time around, the crew is preparing to host one of its highly anticipated shows yet, featuring man of moment and Idols South Africa finalist, Llyoiso Gigana.
Speaking to Arts & Culture, event organiser Kagiso Moatlhodi explained that, “Jam’n Soul Live Sessions was founded in 2018 and it has been running for three years and to date we have hosted a total number of 16 live shows and so our next event will be the 17th. We started off as a very intimate poetry and jazz event with our first show hosting only 50 people and as time went on the show grew to hosting an average of 700 people per show.”
Commenting on the concept , Moatlhodi said their plan is to have themed events.
“We have a different theme for every show that we do. The idea is always to collaborate with different local artists to carry out those themes. For instance, we have recently hosted the food festival, which was held in Bojanala where we hosted around 1,300 people and we
had a line-up of local chefs who did live cooking demos. We also hosted a number of young people who make different types of cuisines. Our purpose is that we want to expand the horizon of young creatives; we want to expose them to a bigger audience and an international audience; we want to create a different scenery within the events community,” she said.
Moatlhodi said they decided to bring Llyoiso to Botswana, who will be debuting in the country because of his life story, which the organisers say they hope will inspire upcoming artists.
“We have all been exposed to his rise to fame. He started off a humble contestant at Idols and he did not win, but his fame later grew through his YouTube profile when he did covers for different song. Now he is one of the trending artists in South Africa. That is a concept we are about; we are about growing the young Batswana and exposing them to a bigger stage. We would like to see some of our resident performers growing to his standards,” she added. Moathodi continued: “We believe his story is very inspirational. For a long time he built his career through covering other people’s songs until he got to a stage where he could release his own music and create a household name for himself. He is an inspiration to a lot of young people that they could one day be recognised by people that could help their careers.”
Pleading with companies and brands to support local creatives, Moathodi feels there is a lot of raw talent and ideas that could be harnessed from the youth. “I really wish that young Batswana event promoters could be given an equal opportunity by brands because there are a lot of amazing concepts that are coming that might be hidden behind young minds and cannot only be unearthed by investors and brands. Let us support the young person, that is where the future is.” Tickets for the event sell for P200 and P350 double tickets.
