Senwelo returns interest in Chiefs

- KABELO BORANABI

Local businessman, Moemedi Senwelo of CRACKiT Tuition Services is returning to Mochudi Centre Chiefs with yet another takeover proposal. The youthful entrepreneur had shown interest during the off-season to acquire 70% of the Kgatleng giants’ stake.

Among his long list of promises then, Senwelo said he would buy a Premier League status, build a 10,000-capacity mini stadium and set up a management company to run the club’s affairs among others. However, the Chiefs’ management turned down his proposal as the club then only availed 10% of the shares. Chiefs also were in the middle of the ownership squabble that has since reached the courts of law and the regional football leadership. Senwelo had decided to move on in his quest to acquire the club and bought the status of Gilport Lions in second-tier football.

He also bought the CityPolar from the third tier and saw the team promoted to the First Division South League as CRACKiT CityPolar FC. At Chiefs, the internal squabbles calmed down a bit as the warring factions met before the Kgatleng Regional Football Association and resolved that the club will be run the society.

A serene atmosphere seems to have returned to the club after a long while, as the new club administration is working to generate money for the club. On the field, there is also a glimmer of hope with a 5-2 win over Uniao Flamengo Santos in the league opener. Senwelo told Mmegi Sport this week that he is willing to kiss and make up with the new Chiefs management. He said he is preparing to open talks with Chiefs in an attempt to take over 70% of the club’s share.

“I am open to negotiations if the 70% shares reserved for an investor are still available.

Mochudi Centre Chiefs remains one of the top three most supported teams in the country and anyone who has a business mind would know that it has potential that can match or surpass those of (Township) Rollers and GU (Gaborone United),” he said.
