- GOITSEMODIMO KAELO

An art exhibition to celebrate local heroes and heroines is scheduled to take place from April 15-28 at the National Museum in Gaborone. According to the exhibition organisers, the show is intended to honour Botswana legends from different fields such as music, literature, business, sports and others through photography, mixed media, sculptures and other various forms of art. The exhibition will be held under the theme, ‘Remembering Botswana legends through art’. Kelemogile Ramasu, who is the founder, producer and presenter of Bagaka Ba Pele TV, show told Arts&Culture that the exhibition is open to all artists.

“All artists regardless of age being photographers, sculptors, or painters are eligible to enter the exhibition,” Ramasu said. Ramasu explained that the exhibition is not a competition but a come-together of artists to honour the legends.

Furthermore, he said they expect the exhibition to be graced by art collectors from the USA, the United Kingdom (UK), South Africa and Spain.

“The exhibition is open to the public. The official opening of the exhibition will be done by Lekwalo Mosienyane, who is the first Motswana chartered architect”, he added. The exhibition is a continuation of Ramasu’s plans to recognise different people who have made significant contributions to the country in different capacities.

As someone who loves history, Ramasu has also produced a television documentary series called Bagaka Ba Pele.

This creative show is aimed at updating viewers on entertainers, authors, athletes, radio and television personalities and any other creatives who have played a significant role in shaping the entertainment space in Botswana. The show also looks at analysing the icons and what the older generation was up to compared to the current generation.
