Relay team to share P150, 000 from gov’t
Companies warned against ambush marketing Houses are ready after the Olympics – Rakgare
For winning a gold medal at the World Relays, the eight team members, Letsile Tebogo, Bayapo Ndori, Busang Collen Kebinatshipi, Leungo Scotch, Isaac Makwala, Boitumelo Masilo, Tumo Stagato van Wyk, and Anthony Pesela will share P150, 000 from the government. The two team coaches, Justice Dipeba and Kebonyemodisa Dose Mosimanyane will share P25, 000.
The BNSC marketing and communications manager, Anderson Nlisana, said the payment is part of the government’s performance incentives and rewards package for national team players and athletes established in 2022.
Meanwhile, Nlisana warned that companies not associated with the team should stop using its image because that is ambush marketing.
“Those companies are not there when the team is preparing.
When we seek sponsorship from them, they turn a blind eye but now that the team comes back with a gold medal, they want to be associated with it. They are gaining free mileage through a team that they did not sponsor. We even wrote letters to some of them requesting sponsorship for the upcoming Botswana Sport Awards, but they are not willing to assist. That is a bad practice that should be condemned in the strongest terms possible,” Nlisana said.
The team’s win has, meanwhile, been hailed by the Minister of Youth, Sport, Culture and Gender (MYSC), Tumiso Rakgare.
