Côte d’ivoire, Nige­ria and South Africa are the cham­pi­ons when it comes to bank­ing sec­tor as­sets con­trolled by banks that are ma­jor­ity owned by do­mes­tic pri­vate in­ter­ests (see map). In Ethiopia, for ex­am­ple, state-owned banks pre­dom­i­nate. In Mozam­bique and the Repub­lic of Congo, for­eign-owned sub­sidiaries hold the most as­sets.
