ME, MARRY A WHITE WOMAN? NEVER!

“News that I recently married a white woman from Zimbabwe is fake” But several Batswana want their Former President to marry

- BY NEO KOLANTSHO

Even after so many years of waiting, it seems some Batswana are still itching for the day former president Ian Khama will announce he has found love. The man himself is however not comfortable talking about his love life - this is a topic he does not want discussed.

Following a recent online media article that suggested Khama recently married a white woman of Zimbabwean origin, a lot of Batswana could not help but celebrate and ululate to the news.

Khama was nonetheless quick to dismiss it all as fake. He told this publication that he did not know the white lady in question. He explained that he has no idea who posted the issue on social media and only suspects that perhaps the person took exception to his condemnation of human rights abuse in Zimbabwe.

Probed further, Khama did not respond when asked if there was a special somebody in his life. He was also not comfortable sharing if he intended to marry in future or not. Meanwhile, the former president’s love life has always been a debatable issue. It was during his reign that the State House was for the first time without a First Lady. Nonetheless, this did not bother Khama much who on several occasions joked about his bachelorhood saying if he were to marry, he would definitely go for a petite woman. He did not respond when this publication asked if the description still fitted his ideal partner. During his time as president, Khama was quoted at several kgotla meetings telling people that he needed help to find the right woman.

Meanwhile, and as the country waited with bated breath to hear him confess to being in love, several women that worked closely with the former president were watched like a hawk.

He would however, step down from the presidency in 2018 still a bachelor. “Even if it’s fake news you have to get married and have your own family, that is what everyone is wishing for,” said one social media user Plato Disaka. Another social media user Blusta Jim said, “A ko a nyale hle Kgosikgolo, kare o le tshaba lebaibai ( lenyalo) mo o tabogelang to rebut tabloids. Nnyaa rraetsho a ko tsise sego sa metsi. (Please marry, marriage freaks you out so much you even rush to rebut tabloids, please bring us a bride.)”
