Choppies taps on technology
Choppies has embarked on technology driven retail transformation, following on the COVID- 19 pandemic which has inspired shopping behavior change.
According to the fast moving consumer goods giant’s Chief Executive Officer, Ramachandran Ottapathu, the retailer is thinking of reshaping and transforming the businesses, to stay afloat, through latest technologies and new ways to connect with consumers are transforming the retail sector. “To compete effectively we should re-imagine how we create and capture value.New retail models are arising out of new technologies and new ways to connect with consumers,” said Ottapathu.
At the height of the on-going COVID-19 pandemic in June, Choppies introduced online shopping coupled with deliveries, to help customers adhere to movement restriction regulations. Choppies has also scheduled for electronic participation of extraordinary general meetings (EGM), penciled for next week, given restrictions on gatherings and travel.
“The EGM 2018 and the EGM 2019 will be held entirely through electronic communication being audio communication by which all shareholders participating in the EGMs will simultaneously hear each other throughout the EGMs, as provided for in section 109 of the Companies Act and section3(b) of the Second Schedule to the Companies Act,” said a communiqué from Choppies. The communiqué further says the company’s constitution also permits such electronic communication at a meeting of shareholders.
