JUST BREATHE… WITH WHOLISTIC YOGA
I’m staying on this topic because I regard it as very crucial particularly now, with so much uncertainty that derives from Covid-19.
We recently had a very quiet independence holiday, for the first time ever, as our national leadership encouraged us to restrict our movements, in response to the unpredictable unfolding of the covid-19 spread throughout the country.
Allow me to buttress the point of using breath, the special techniques that we can learn to help our body to be more resistant to possible infections. It is critical that the body defense mechanism be strong to keep us safe and healthy. An immune system that is already compromised will succumb to even the lightest threat of infection. As we are encouraged to follow all safety protocols to guard against covid-19, we also need to take steps to strengthen our immune system.
What weakens the immune system is a fatigued or exhausted body and mind, a stressed mind, among other things. This is at a very basic level of wellness, before we involve the Doctors….. and understanding this empowers us and leads us to raise our awareness to take action to capacitate ourselves.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar says “a weak mind cannot carry even the strongest body, but a strong mind can carry a weak body”. The mind is challenged more than ever, thinking, worrying, stressing, being anxious about the covid-19 situation. This calls for paying more attention to the mind, to give it deep rest amidst the chaos and uncertainties that surround us. That is where wholistic yoga comes in. Usually people feel that they relax when they go on holiday. Whilst that is true, what do you do when you become fatigued but can’t go on holiday because of the prevailing restrictions to our movements?
As we take a moment to reflect on what we can do within the boundaries of our homes to keep healthy, to boost the immune system, to increase our energy levels, to not drown when it really gets crazy, consider the Art of Living Happiness program. These programs happen almost every fortnight, and you are encouraged to enroll on one.
Sometimes the seemingly easy solutions are the most effective. Breath is very easy and a natural gift, but if you do not practice wholistic yoga, chances are you are highly underutilizing your breath.
