Block 8, 9 clinics' windfall from thankful Chinese
The two clinics of Block 8 and Block 9 suburbs have received an unexpected windfall from two Chinese associations Gaborone Overseas Chinese Service Centre and Botswana Chinese General Chamber of Commerce - in their frontline efforts against Covid-19.Both health facilities were in the forefront providing testing services to several Chinese nationals returning home or arriving in the country in the early days of the pandemic. And as a token of appreciation for the risks the frontline officers took and continue to take, the two Chinese associations, represented by their President Zhongwen Hu and Leon Liang, the Organiser, resolved to surprise the clinics with gifts, food hampers and sanitizers. On hand at the Block 8 clinic to receive the 60 boxes of goodies were Dr Keorapetse
Mmualefhe, the Coordinator of Gaborone North Covid-19 Response Cluster, the Clinic Matron, Olebogeng Tsedi and Nurse, Meshack William. Presenting the goods, Zhongwen commended the Clinic’s Covid Response Team for their bravery and urged them to continue the “good work” careful at all times to shy away from fingerpointing or fault-finding as theirs is a noble service of saving lives.
Dr Mmualefhe also appreciated the two associations for the gesture while the Matron appealed to Zhongwen to consider assisting them with a marquee (tent) to cater for the many clients that visit their clinic so that they can hide from the elements (rain and heat) especially during summer. In Block 9 clinic, Dr Mpho Mpape, the Coordinator of Gaborone South Cluster Covid-19 Response accompanied by the Data Capturing Officer, Maipelo Tsheole expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the 60 boxes of gifts but also revealed that their greatest challenges are stationery and lack of transport. She said the clinic is currently well-endowed with personal protective equipment, but that their real need is transport in order to cope with the rising numbers of new infections being reported in Gaborone as they embark on the arduous tasks of contact tracing. The over 120 boxes comprised items such as powder soaps, detergents, sanitizers, cooking oil, rice, juices and others all costing P100, 000 according to Zhongwen.
