- BY LAME CHABA

Six hundred and twenty-four (624) students graduated from Limkokwing University of Creative Technology in the University’s first-ever virtual ceremony held under the theme, ‘Design your future.’

The institution’s communications specialist Mercy Thebe said the university was forced to do things differently without the usual pomp and fanfare this year as a result of Covid-19.

She expressed delight and satisfaction that their students were better-placed to face the world as they were graduating from a University recognised worldwide for promoting creativity and innovation. The students had an opportunity to undergo training that inspired them to explore their entrepreneurial selves through the use of latest technologies, she said.

“As you exit the University in pursuit of your professional and other interests, remember to return to contribute in ways that will keep the light shining for future generations,” implored Thebe. Meanwhile, Minister for Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology Dr. Douglas Letsholathebe noted that by graduating from Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, graduates are better placed than most, to exploit technology, entrepreneurial skills, creativity, and have an opportunity to create employment. Dr Letsholathebe said the graduation is the beginning of multiple journeys of achievement, experimentation and self-improvement. One of the graduates, Botswana Gazette Editor Lawrence Seretse, who graduated with a BA (Honours) in Broadcasting and Journalism, added to the sentiments shared by both Thebe and the minister. “At Limkokwing we were taught to be solution orientated thinkers. I remember one of my lecturers used to warn us that theories do not open doors and change societies, but if you practice getting up and getting things done, your hands will open doors for you and bring about change,” Seretse said.
