Kgosi Mosadi: Stay away from people’s husbands
Kgosi Astley Gops aims to rid his village of the rape tag
► As Kgosana, he will only do corporate shows ► No more bars and dubious places for me
Popular Afro Pop artist Gopadileng Gopadileng aka ‘Astley Gops’ will no longer perform at “undignified” places in an effort to protect his new role as head of arbitration for Moretele ward in Letlhakeng village.
When he was installed this past week, many of his fans were left wondering if Kgosana Gopadileng will be getting all serious with bogosi issues during the day then go dancing until he drops at a carefree festival later in the night.
What a contradiction! They wondered. “I will now focus on corporate events and only accept invites which I know will not drag my name through the mud. I will try as much as possible to stay away from the likes of bars and others,” he said.
Asked if his decision will not harm client relations, Gopadileng said that he has always been a choosy artist. He knew that he was of royal blood and that one day he would have to take his rightful place as Kgosana.
That is why he always carried a wooden stick that even earned him the name Rathobane. Additionally, he took a good three years preparing for his new role as Kgosana and this included informing his friends in the music industry about his intentions.
“People respect me a lot and I intend to keep it that way. Also there has always been wisdom behind all my songs hence they are all still relevant even up to today,” Gopadileng said.
Astley Gops has produced songs such as Ke a belaela; Maggie ke a go rata; Ke motho wa motho; and Naya Moya among others. As he assumes power, the 48-year-old said he was particularly worried about the high cases of rape reported in Letlhakeng.
He will be working with relevant stakeholders to cleanse the village of the evil spirits of rape. It breaks his heart that their small village has gained notoriety for such disgusting things.
“People know Molepolole as a place where women are butchered, Letlhakeng will equally be labelled a rape village soon and we do not wish for it to go that far,” he said.
