Women’ day, which was celebrated on Monday. March, is commemorated as Women’s Month.
BoMme Basadi is a catchy and upbeat hip-hop song sing praises for women from all walks of life, and reminds them that the many challenges they overcome and the highs and lows they face in life do not go unrecognised. On the song, each rapper throws in a verse reflecting on the great deeds of women in their lives and society as a whole.
One of the rappers, Tebogo ‘Kunta’ Moloise told Vibe that the idea for the song was borne of the realisation that many women face a plethora of challenges and deserve to be celebrated for the many sacrifices they make in life, especially for their children and families. “Most households in Botswana are single parent-female led and these women effortlessly raise children and hold down jobs and businesses without complaining. This is quite admirable. We have women who are doing the most out there and they deserve to be celebrated. Women are precious and should be treated with utmost care and respect, this is especially true as we are faced with the problem of GBV in our communities,” he said.
Kunta further said that the rappers intend to release more music to share with their fans and music lovers all over. “We always make time to go into the studio and we have more music lined up to be released later this year; we can’t want to keep sharing our insights through music.”
