CRIMINAL POLICE OFFICERS MAKE AWAY WITH P150 000

Police spokesperson Dipheko Motube has been speaking of fraudsters who have been impersonating the police, saying they have been able to make away with up to around P150 000 just by swindling a lot of unsuspecting citizens. Gatwe the chaps would wait by the ATMs or inside the banking halls to look for those cashing a lot of money so that they then follow them until they reach a safe point where they stop the victim as police officers, in stolen uniform, asking to search them following a tip off that they stole some money. The same week a picture and video clip of such an impersonator has been trending on social media – gatwe the guy was beaten up by the public after he had been fining them for not wearing masks and not observing the Covid-19 safety protocol of social distancing. One wonders who in their right minds would actually believe this guy to be authentic as a police officer. But of course it must have been easy as he is said to have been targeting the drunkards at numerous drinking and entertainment spots around town. We gather that at the sight of him in his uniform, many would scurry for cover, even offering him a bribe to avoid charges of failure to wear masks. Poor guy, he has since been handed over to the real police after some thorough beating.
