WIN-TECH DEBUTS WATER HEATING BUCKETS

- BY IRENE SHONE

Win-Tech Pty Ltd, an electrical and electronics engineering company has just introduced locally made water heating buckets for supply.

The company was registered last year with an effort to meet electrical demands and create job opportunities. Director of the company, Khathazile Masuku tells Sun Business that they offer electrical installations and maintenances including electrical fencing, motor gate, cctv, air-conditioning and solar energy. His passion for engineering attracted him to this field and he explains that he wishes to specialize in local produce. Like most of the graduates, he shares that shortage of jobs has pushed him to think outside the box and register his company to share what he has to offer. He is a holder of Electrical and Electronics Engineering obtained from New Era College.

In these difficult times of the pandemic where most people come up with business ideas, he admits that he also had to bring something new to the table, hence his newly introduced water heating buckets. “The job of engineering technicians is to interpret designs and ensure that the market has something proper for use, so as winter is upon us, I thought these water heating buckets are relevant at the time,” he explains. He uses water heating elements for his 20 L buckets which he says is convenient during winter than using a geyser all the time, as this helps save electricity. So far he receives positive feedback, and reiterates that his customers are happy for saving electricity.

However, just like any other businesses he also encounters challenges and notes that, whenever he has a water leakage, which may be caused by improper fitting of the seal that connects the element and the bucket, it means a loss as he has to make a new bucket. “The other main challenge is that both the buckets and elements are expensive to buy, especially that I pick buckets of quality material to last longer and sustain the heat. This therefore challenges me because my prices remain low, in order for me to reach more consumers with an afford

able price,” he explains.

He shares that he uses 1500 watts capacity for his elements, of the capacity which provides fast heating. His target audience includes families and businesses. Masuku notes that he intends on growing this business until he ends up making geysers as well.

He is of the view that the engineering sector is growing in Botswana but however needs more empowerment for the engineers to create more designs or products. “There are so many talented engineers out there but can’t express their creativity as they often lack funding to do so,” he said.
