KAZUNGULA BRIDGE TO ATTRACT INVESTMENT, CREATE EMPLOYMENT
The newly built Kazungula Bridge, linking Botswana and Zambia, is expected to spur economies of the two countries, according to President of Botswana, Mokgweetsi Masisi. “We have improved the development and competitiveness of our economies to attract more private sector investment, thereby, supporting our efforts to create employment, especially for the burgeoning youth,” said the President.
Connectivity of the two nations will promote people to people interactions and uplift standards of living, while promoting African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA). “This bridge will provide business opportunities, particularly facilitated through information communication technology (ICT) by the young people, for the young people and with the young people throughout southern Africa and beyond,” Masisi said.
The President further announced that he is committed to empowering the youthful population to drive the development of countries through science and technology. Masisi was recently appointed Generation Unlimited Leader and its Champion for Southern Africa, a global initiative created to expand education, skills development and employment opportunities for young people and to capacitate them as innovators of the future to lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution on the continent.
This year, Botswana will host the first Forbes Under 30 Summit in Africa, to attract more than six hundred young people and Masisi believes it’s an opportunity to empower the youth. “This will create a conducive environment for young entrepreneurs to share their business ideas with the global business community and investors,” said Masisi.
