A Zimbabwean man Ntando Moyo was arraigned before Francistown Magistrate Court last week in connection with the murder of 74-year old Rayburn Maibe.

He was remanded in custody and will appear for mention on the 7th June 2021.

According to Tonota Police boss Oteng Ngada, the 28-year old Moyo killed Maibe for allegedly taking without permission, his plastic containing dinawa

(beans) and morogo wa

Setswana (relish).

“The illegal Zimbabwean immigrant is alleged to have bought morogo and dinawa at a tuck-shop. He then hung the items on a nearby tree.

“When he came back later, his items were no longer on the tree and he was informed by someone that Maibe had taken them”, Ngada said.

Moyo confronted Maibe and a scuffle ensued. It seemed during the struggle, Maibe fell and sustained head injuries. He was rushed to Nyangabgwe hospital in Francistown where he died three days later.

Meanwhile in a separate incident, a 37 year old man of Tonota West was crushed to death by a cargo train this past Sunday.

According to Ngada, the train tried but in vain to warn the man of danger coming his way but he remained stagnant on the

railway.

“The train was passing through the village when the train operator noticed the man on the railway. No amount of horn blowing could alert him to give way. He remained on the railway and nothing could be done to save him”, said Ngada.

Ngada said preliminary investigations suggest that the deceased was physically and mentally challenged.

“This is what we have gathered so far from the family and it seems like on the day he died, he was coming from church”, Ngada said.
