Little girl breaks down when asked who impregnated her
A 12-year old girl of Ramaphatle Primary School in Kweneng District is at pains to name the father of her unborn baby.
However, it is heavily suspected that she was molested by her 34year old father (name withheld).
According to Thamaga Station commander Moses Kwarape, the matter was reported to them by school authorities, who informed them that the standardsix pupil is now seven months pregnant.
“She is heavily pregnant and is said to have started absconding from school. When questioned, the girl keeps breaking down and has not said much”, Kwarape said. They have since taken the father in for questioning.
“The father denies it all, he suggests that the child is ill-mannered and often sleeps out and suggests that she must have given herself to some man out there”, Kwarape said.
Thamaga Police boss explained that they will be doing all they can
to get justice for the girl, adding that the same man has a pending defilement case to answer to, which occurred back in 2017.
He said the condition of the 12-year old is heart wrenching, as from their observation it will be very difficult for the teenage girl to feed, clothe or even provide basics for her unborn child.
Because she is already far along in her pregnancy, it is hard to even consider legal abortion. “The young girl finds herself in the horns of a dilemma. She depends on her father for survival and if she admits that he molested her, the father might go to jail”, Kwarape said.
Kwarape noted that the accused is father to two girls, with the other daughter currently doing standard seven.
The 34-year old father is said to have been raising the two girls single-handedly from a young age. The mother is alleged to have long deserted the family and her whereabouts are currently unknown.
