#BreakTheBias: Alliance Francaise zooms into GBV

- SUN REPORTER

A panel discussion in honour of women themed, ‘#BreakTheBias’ kicks off a packed Alliance Francaise Botswana programme for the month of March 2022.

Unveiling the French institute’s programme of events in a press conference Tuesday morning in Gaborone, Alliance Francaise’s Director, Angelique Saverino, said the panel discussion will be preceded by a screening of the film, Madam Colonelle, which stars a female law enforcement officer fighting for women and children’s rights.

The panel discussion will feature three distinguished Batswana personalities – Tebogo Lebotse Sebego, the Chief Communications and Public Relations Officer at Mascom Wireless, who is also Vice Chairperson of the Botswana National Sports Commission Board as well as Founder of the Basadi Bomme Trust.

The other two panelists are Desmond Lunga, the co-founder and Team leader of the advocacy organisation, Men and Boys for Gender Equality and the inspirational lady pilot, Captain Kgomotso Phatsima – the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Dare to Dream organisation.

Ahead of the International Women’s Day, the Alliance Francaise has already positioned itself to make a modest contribution in efforts to fight the scourge that bedevils our womenfolk – genderbased violence.

Saverino said the panel discussion’s theme was inspired by the film since it talks about fighting violence against women and children.

The theme also speaks to breaking the barriers of prejudice and fostering dialogue between men and women about coexistence.
