Kgosi Mswati disowns royal club after humiliation
Some football club we hear is ownwed and supported by the royal family in Eswatini was over the weekend beaten 6-2 by Orlando Pirates of South Africa in an African continental competition called the CAF Confederations Cup. The club is called Royal Leopards FC and we hear they are the best club in that country having been backed by the rich royal family headed by Kgosi Mswati. But you see, this competition pits the top clubs from each African country against one another and this time, the top club in Eswatini found themselves scheduled to play another top side from South Africa. It turns out that the 2-6 loss embarrassed the people of Eswatini and the royal family that they immediately disowned the club and informed the CAF organisers that the club is from Botswana.
Someone at the Confederation Of African Football (CAF) offices must have also been sleeping on the job to even remember that Botswana had her own representatives in the continental competitions. Batswana were thus shocked on Sunday evening and even on Monday morning when they saw the website and official facebook page of CAF pronouncing that Royal Leopards FC was from Botswana. The facebook post was so popular throughout the entire African continent that even when Batswana called for the correction, it was too late. Football fanatics from all over the world are already ridiculing Botswana football and saying only a Botswana side can concede six goals despite being the best in the country. They tease Botswana as the pernennial whipping boys of African football, and joined in this crusade against Botswana by the people of Eswatini. Imagine!
