BSB OPENS NEW BRANCH IN GUMARE
Botswana Savings Bank (BSB) continues to open branches across the country’s remote villages, as part of the institution’s financial inclusion mandate.
The bank opened its new branch in Gumare last week and is expected to spur the bank’s mission of creating a legacy of financial inclusion outreach. “We recognizes that for villages like Gumare with phenomenal growth and upcoming developments, there is a need for provision of accessible financial solutions,” said BSB board member, Matilda
Basinyi at the opening of the Gumare branch. The BSB Gumare branch is a SmartBranch which provides enhanced fully fledged banking solutions to the community of Gumare and surrounding villages. As part of BSB’s support to the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development’s Financial Inclusion Roadmap and Strategy, the bank endevours to enhance financial inclusion in the country. “The strategy is designed at improving the payment system; access to low-cost savings products and the credit reporting systems,” said Basinyi.
She said government has appointed BSB to champion the priority area of focusing on access to low-cost savings products, given the important role the bank plays in pioneering savings in Botswana. Basinyi highlighted that BSB is therefore playing an important role in the economy, by taking banking services to the unbanked population.
She is also optimistic that BSB will heighten its service delivery, as more consumers are now demanding that financial institutions change ways of doing business by becoming more transparent and taking an active role in addressing customers’ needs.
