UB HIGH PERFORMANCE CENTRE GATEWAY TO SADC
The University of Botswana is expected to be a regional power in sports science following the official opening of the institution’s state of the art High Performance Centre earlier this week.
The event held at the University attracted officials from government, academia and captains of the sports industry who came to witness the world class facility that is expected to serve athletes and sports professionals from Botswana and across the region. Giving his key note address at the opening ceremony, the Minister of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology, Dr Douglas Letsholathebe said the facility will see Botswana become the gateway to the regional sports industry.
“I can imagine sports conferencing becoming a powerful new trend in our MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events) sector with sports- related marketing, sponsorship, advertising, funding and third stream incentives arising to make Botswana a sports start-up and sustainability gateway in SADC,” Letsholathebe said.
The Minister continued: “I can imagine the experience gained from this centre feeding into accident and injury rehabilitation, reshaping our physiotherapy, our high care and our better understanding of healing and restoring processes.”
Addressing the fully packed hall at the facility Letsholathebe said: “It will not be long before the sporting worlds recognize and embrace this university’s unique approach to its expectant stakeholders and markets. Sportspeople and scholars have everything in common; they all cultivate difficult skills and dedicate discipline and effort to achieve higher results.”
