DaNicky makes strides in kwaito industry

- SUN REPORTER

Upcoming sghubu (a mix of kwaito and motswako) artist Da Nicky wa Motswako 357, who hails from Ramotswa, is positive that the local music industry is thirsty for his talent.

The energetic lad recently told Vibe that he started in music in 2015, inspired by Kay-Jay Killo, who took him to the studio and helped him record a song titled, Bula Sekele. After that he took a break for a year and later met another sghubu artist, Tswak Vellas, who motivated him to make music so that people could recognise his talent. He has since released several songs including Razi Town, Kgakololo, Morweetsane, Ba mo tsere and Groover njalo, among others. He said he is seeing an improvement in reception to his music, noting that not being recognised used to upset him. “I used to feel pain when I was starting out and struggling but many people told me to never give up and continue pushing. I have met a few Motswako artists who told me that they also struggled in the hustle, before they were taken seriously.” He said he dreams of one day working with the likes of ATI, Notshi, MMP Family, Baxon, Han C, BK Proctor and BigL Wasekai among others. Da Nicky advised young people passionate about music to be perseverant and resilient. “They should have a heart because the music industry is not easy. They should be able to stand for ups and downs, because they are likely to face many challenges that need a strong heart to overcome. They should also be humble and mind how they talk to people because those same people are the ones who can help open doors for them.”
