THE SWEET BOX ADDS A DASH OF CREATIVITY TO BAKING
Director of baking company, The Sweet Box, Anitta Mmopelwa says that the love she have for baking inspired her to start her own business and for her to establish making money thus reducing too much dependency on her parents. Mmopelwa told Vibe that her growing business has been doing well since its inception in July 2021. She noted that last month she enjoyed great success on Valentines Day because orders came in thick and fast.
“In February 2022 the business did exceptionally well because of Valentines Day. I had many customers and I also got an opportunity to work with First National Bank Botswana Broadhurst branch as my very first corporate order during Valentine’s Day, which was a muchneeded challenge and allowed me to spread my wings,” she said. According to Mmopelwa, her business is aimed at everyone who want to have a memorable celebration for their special days or just to satisfy their sweet cravings. They work on an order basis and always give their best, she said. She added that at the moment she offers Cakesicles and cupcakes and small buttercream cakes but as time goes on she will start making all types cakes. Mmopelwa said so far Batswana have been very supportive of her business. “The business is still small and new but we have already rceived amazing support despite having little experience in the industry,” she said. The enterprising young woman encouraged the youth start building their own brand at a younger age, even though it is not easy, nothing that sometimes hardships are faced and she does not get any orders, but that should not discourage one instead it should encourage to market themselves even more.
Mmopelwa concluded that one other strategy is that when one want to work with bigger brands, they should create a product that is outstanding, exceptional and attractive to the people in order to get them to appreciate their offerings and support their businesses.
