ADONJI FASHION RAISES THE BAR IN STYLE STAKES
Adonji Fashions is making waves in the fashion and textiles industry, and the talented lass behind the brand, Tsholofelo Adonji Gaboitsiwe, who hails from Serowe, is pleased with the positive feedback from her clients.
She told Vibe that she was introduced to fashion by her grandmother, who was a dressmaker and a weaver. “Growing up as a little girl, I always had dolls made from cloths. I grew up in Thema 2 in Lobatse, where I fell in love with fashion and textiles because of granny’s influence. My passion was also fuelled by being surrounded by artistic people such as my late father and my brother, who is an artist,” she said.
Gaboitsiwe completed Trade C in Clothing design and Textiles at Palapye Technical College and Trade B in Clothing Design and Textiles at Maun Technical College. She is currently completing her Associate degree in
Textile Design at Limkokwing University.
She said she loves her work and it brings her great fulfillment to see the happy faces of her clients who are pleased with her work.“It brings gratification to see happy clients pleased with my work.”
Gaboitsiwe noted that it is unfortunate that the creative industry is not taken as seriously as it should, considering the plethora of talent in the creative field.
“We need to nurture creative skills from primary school level, and show young people that there is an alternative to make money and be successful apart from joining the corporate sector. There is potential among young creatives but the challenge is that the creative industry is not taken seriously by participants and regulators/authorities.The fashion and textiles industry still needs a lot of recognition, publicity and financial investment to grow and reach the level of success it deserves, she said.
Gaboitsiwe added that local creatives in fashion and textiles creatives should also be accorded platforms that can lead to their breakthrough. “For many, dressing athletes, models and Miss Botswana, for example, could be a life-changing opportunity. We should remember that international brands also started from humble beginnings and our local talent should also be nurtured and supported to grow and evolve to global standards.”
