STANBIC BANK SECURES IPELEGENG TENDER
Stanbic Bank Botswana will start administering payment system for the Francistown Ipelegeng employees through its Unayo mobile money system. The bank signed a contract with Francistown City Council to become the official payments administrator for Ipelegeng Scheme beneficiaries across 25 wards in the city. The agreement will see payment to approximately 2,337 recipients on a monthly basis on behalf of the Council. Speaking during the signing ceremony last week, Stanbic Bank Acting Chief Executive Officer, Christopher Gwere said the bank appreciates the Ipelegeng scheme to be an integral part of the employment drive by Government and sees support for thousands of Batswana as they strive to earn an income. “We are honoured to support the City of Francistown in this manner; ensuring thousands of people receive their monthly payments on time, with ease of access and convenience. Our Purpose as Stanbic Bank Botswana is to drive the country’s growth and see the unwavering commitment to real and relevant financial solutions to empower the consumer.”
Gwere said banking platforms such as Unayo will put the power in people’s hands to improve their financial wellbeing and ensure that they are part of a growing and thriving economic ecosystem. Stanbic Bank will provide facilities for the payment of these wages at all ATMs and participating Unayo Merchants (street vendors and general dealer merchants) through its network across the 25 Francistown wards.
For his part, Francistown City Clerk, Lopang Pule said over 2,300 individuals who in turn have dependents relying on their incomes will be paid in a timeous manner. “This is coupled with empowering platforms for easy, accessible and convenient solutions as through Unayo, we see opportunity here not simply to make payments, but to ensure residents of the City are educated on financial matters, included in the ecosystem of financial services, and actively seeing their lives improved.” The contract commences April 2022 and will run for 2 years. The Bank was officially awarded the tender after rigorous assessment of applicants in a closed tender process.
