JUNIOR TENNIS TEAMS LEAVE FOR MAPUTO

The Tennis Junior National team has left the county to participat­e in the CAT Zonal Championsh­ip slated for Maputo, Mozambique; the tournament will be played from Friday 15 April until April 20.

The under 12 Boys and Girls National Tennis teams are leaving today (Wednesday) under the guidance of two coaches, Gaone Modisane and Dimpho Legoreng. The boys in the team include Martin Seetso, Tinashe Phatshwane and Marcus Semane while the girls are Samantha Chivazve, Nelisiwe Tsima

and Angela Sefawe. On the other hand, the first round matches at J4 internatio­nal tennis tournament in Gaborone has commenced with Mark Nawa of Botswana playing Eityan Meiseen of Belgium. Chelsea Changanyuk­a of Botswana plays Iriela Rajaobelin­a of France while the Number 1 ranked player in the Tournament, Denzel Seetso plays Pavlos Christofak­ris of South Africa. Another local, Naledi Raguin, who is becoming a household

name, plays Taylor Wilmont of South Africa. Naledi is based in France, but started playing tennis in Botswana; she continues to make a mark every time she sets foot in the court. Over 70 players from France, Poland, Belgium and the rest of the country are playing in this week Tournament. Botswana Tennis Associatio­n (BTA), President Oaitse Thipe said: “We expect our players to at least reach the finals of the Under 18 tournament; in Mozambique we expect at least our teams to reach the quarterfin­als. ”He added that the Under 12 tournament is a developmen­t pathway Tournament and very important to get match practice for the players. Meanwhile, the Under 18 internatio­nal tennis tournament awards points to get players to junior Wimbledon.
