MODEL TURNED MAKEUP ARTIST
Kayden Artistry is one makeup house inspired by the ‘look good and feel good’ touch.Their dream is to do makeup training in cosmetology schools.
Director at Kayden Artistry, Karabo Dintwa, is not just an ordinary makeup artist, but a makeup artist of note who has been in the field for over eight years. Interestingly, what inspired her to join this field is the fact that she was a model before and enjoyed looking good all the time. This forced her to develop interest in learning how to do makeup, and ended up opening Kayden Artistry. They are based in Gaborone and also operate country wide through their mobile spa.
Dintwa has always loved how makeup artists made her look pretty at fashion shows and developed interest in applying the face art on herself. “They would do those funny artistic looks, colourful eyeshadows, bright lipsticks on my dark melanin skin, and this really made me accept my skin tone and fell in love with makeup. I really appreciated this art, and thanks to modelling, I am now a makeup artist and doing all the face beats that have been done on my face,” she says. She sees makeup as a way to having fun and expressing oneself as well as embracing beauty. “I love the way makeup enhances the colour of the eyes and how a simple lipstick can make one the centre of attention. Makeup brings some personality out of people and it just highlights one’s features,” she says, adding that the one aspect that sets her apart from other makeup artists is keeping up with the trending makeup looks and other makeup styles. She defines herself as a flexible makeup artist who learns new techniques, and stays passionate about what she does. To her, the Botswana makeup industry is on a 7/10 success rate and she is hopeful that they will experience greater growth. Kayden Artistry dreams of becoming a professional makeup artist, trainer in schools of cosmetology and doing makeup in big events such as Africa Fashion Show International and Vogue.
