Suspension of Kgosipula further divides BNF

- BY EDWARD BULE

Following the suspension of former Member of Parliament (MP) for Mogoditshane, Mokgweetsi Kgosipula who is also a BNF veteran, the party finds itself further divided between those who agree with the party leadership and those who support, Dr Baatlhodi Molatlhegi.

The spokesperson of the Molatlhegi campaign effort, Rash Sedimo believes that Kgosipula’s suspension smacks of extreme panic by the Duma Boko campaign team, arising from the spirited campaign carried out by Molatlhegi team and is directed at halting Molatlhegi’s campaign.

“The so-called suspension is a desperate and feeble effort aimed at distraction of the attention of both the BNF and members and the general public from last week’s illegal activities carried out by some individuals under the cover of darkness at the party office,” says Sedimo in a written statement.

Sedimo further said, “These people and their handlers have crystallised into an underground faction to frustrate the will of the BNF members and steal the forthcoming central committee elections. This will not be tolerated and it will not stand. We wish to state it categorically that, the Bucs Campaign team does not recognise the so-called suspension of Comrade Kgosipula.”

The lobby team finds it ironic that Kgosipula, who alongside other cadres from the Bucs campaign team blew the whistle on the nocturnal activities by some BNF members who allegedly sought to illegally print membership cards for the Boko lobby to enable their members to be armed with membership cards and hence be able to vote.

“It is an act of indiscipline and extreme insubordination for the chairperson of Lentsweletau-Mmopane constituency to purport to take action against Cde Kgosipula on a matter that is coming before the BNF CC. We call upon BNF members to reject the misuse of BNF structures to advance personal interests,” said Sedimo, who added that, the kind of intolerance seen in the BNF to the different viewpoints is not characteristic of the BNF political culture and traditions.

“We advise and demand that the BNF should act expeditiously to rein in the perpetrators of this and other illegal acts to protect the image of the organisation. Once again, we call upon an independent body to supervise the forth coming BNF Youth League congress, as well as do a membership audit and the publication of the voters’ roll in advance,” explained Sedimo, who noted that it is wrong for the BNF to have one set of standards behaviour for itself and a different one for the other parties.

By press time, BNF secretary general, Moeti Mohwasa was not able to comment because the matter had not reached the party leadership. Kgosipula was suspended following utterances he made to the press last week regarding complaints against those who were found at the party office at 3am. The suspending authority say Kgosipula has no mandate to speak on matters of the BNF.
