K&K Modest Apparel Clothing makes a mark

K&K Modest Apparel Clothing is aimed at setting the standard when it comes to modest clothing through their stylish outfits.

Twin sisters, Kefilwe and Keneilwe Matutu said that they have identified a gap in modest clothing and therefore target especially, church ladies, the corporate world and social events. They started their fashion design business in 2019 as a hobby, and the hobby eventually became a professional fashion house that makes garments that turn heads.

“We exist to represent modest clothing, and making this unique clothing brand was intentional,” said Kefilwe in an interview. She told Vibe that, they started by sewing skirts, dresses and tops, using free hand, with the basic skills they acquired from Junior Secondary School as they studied Home Economics. Soon,they decided to followYouTube tutorials to learn more and perfect their skills.The duo boasts that they indeed mastered the art of textile designing and never looked back since then. “Through passion, perseverance, patience and purpose, which we call our 4 P’s, we managed to be where we are now and these 4Ps are the backbone of our business,” they said.

“We then bought a small domestic machine and advanced from making a dress with a free hand for three days to making it for three hours roughly.We managed to attract as many clients and before we knew it, we bought an industrial machine. Our dream was fulfilled because growing up, it was our dream to design clothes and own a clothing business.”

“Although it was not that easy, they managed to secure 4 industrial sewing machines, a dummy doll and industrial iron and other sewing accessories.“We are still in the process of accumulating more because we are a micro business in the process of growing into macro business within local fashion industry,” they added. They are of the view that, Botswana fashion industry is beautiful in its diversity, but there is also room for improvement.

The Selibe Phikwe based fashion designers reiterated that fashion expresses one’s character, and they would live to prove this through their designs, despite having full-time jobs.

K&K Modest Apparel Clothing is looking forward to growing bigger and better, and in the pipeline is opening a boutique and supplying local stores.
