because it was said that he was tiny and fragile and wouldn’t survive the heat. Determined as he was, the marauding striker kept going even when things seemed not to be to his favor. As everybody was dismissing him he had the initiative to develop his talents. Following his final BGCSE exams, the then teenager tried his luck with Pilikwe United but never really came to his potential. “I played for Pilikwe United in Palapye for six months but I never really made a breakthrough because no one believed I could make it, but I was determined to continue with playing, I never thought of giving up.” Sometime in 2010 while still studying at Limkonkwing University, Sesinyi attended trials at Flamingo Santos and still he wasn’t good enough but that did not deter him or dent his confidence, he left with his head held high with the hope and belief that the right opportunity will present itself. His passion and love for football did not die out, and his lights did not dim; it kept burning as he then moved to play Sunday soccer in Mogoditshane to stay fit and in shape. Eventually his breakthrough was to come as he went through with his determination and belief that one day he will make it; he went for trials at Matebejana which was the development side of BDF XI. “Matebejana accepted me and that was special for me because finally someone appreciated my talent and gave me the much needed confidence, I spent a season there and it was surreal.” Things started to work out for him and playing for Notwane was imminent, he joined them in 2013 and played 8 games, scoring only once, he made progress the following season but his contract was not renewed although he felt the progress.” The dazzling player finished tertiary and went for his attachment in Orapa where he got an opportunity to join Orapa United, however coach Maxwell Moyo still didn’t believe he would make it but that did not break his spirits.

“When they parted with Moyo and introduced Madinda Ndlovu, I tried my luck and he believed in me, and I took the opportunity with both hands.” Slowly but surely, Sesinyi became a household name and some of the big teams came knocking at his door but most moves never materialized. Later in 2015, he joined Jwaneng Galaxy and his career exploded as he joined Platinum Stars in South Africa in 2017. “It was a much more professional league, I never thought I would be at that level but when I was there I still believed I could go further, the professional set up was so good and progress within those structures was imminent.” Just when his career was booming and things were working out for him in the South African elite league, Sesinyi twisted his knee and things changed for the worst as a dark cloud hovered over his head. “I think I had to go through a lot to overcome that injury but it helped me mature emotionally and mentally because I started reading about football, learning many other things and how professional athletes recover from these kind of injuries.” Meanwhile, his team relegated to the lower division at the time he was battling the injury and he couldn’t do anything to help the team.

“It goes without saying that you wouldn’t know what being stronger means until the world demands you to be stronger so that kept me motivated and I wanted to be better,” he said. With his career on hold, Sesinyi says his teammates, friends and family kept him going during that time and he came back home for a proper rehab at Jwaneng Galaxy. “I was always intrigued and staying prepped up for the season after Covid -19.” Moreover, he believes he is having the best season of his career currently and he is having a good season because his stats are even better than before.

“One thing that pushed me is that we lost quality players at Galaxy and I wanted to show everyone that we still have quality players, so I had to show up for the team and go an extra mile.” The 29 year old has been enjoying himself in the Botswana Football League (BFL) and he is currently the leading goal scorer with 20 goals after just 26 games played by his team, he is ahead of his competitor, Thatayaone Kgamanyane of Gaborone United who has scored 18 goals.
