Gaborone Book Festival & EAU University to host workshops for writing for children
Gaborone Book Festival has partnered with East Africa University to organise a workshop on writing for children, set to take place between June and September 2022.
The workshop will be in hybrid form, with some sessions held in-person and others held virtually.
The workshops will take place in Gaborone and Maun.
The key facilitator for the workshop is Zimbabweanborn renowned writer, playwright, filmmaker and activist,Tsitsi Dangarembga.
The workshop is aimed at equipping writers who would like to write for a younger audience with the knowledge and skills essential for creating content for this market, with the hope to “unearth new writing talent and also encourage more writers to write for children to meet the market needs and literature gaps for children’s literature in Botswana.”
Dangarembga gained acclaimed for her awardwinning book Nervous Conditions .
She has also published other books including The Book of Not,This Mournable body and her latest offering, Black and Female. Dangarembga has also collaborated on several films and documentaries.
She is not only a literary activist but is also known for her political commitment. The writer is a known activist who has spoken out about the injustices in Zimbabwe and is also a human rights figure who speaks out constantly against inequality and injustice, particularly on blacks, women and children. She won the 2021 Peace Prize of the German Book Trade and has received other coveted awards over the years, including the Commonwealth Writers Prize and PEN International award, among others.
