On the BPF finally joining forces with the UDC
BOTSWANA PATRIOTIC FRONT NOW A UDC MEMBER
The Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF) and Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) National Executive Committees met on the 6th of August to consider matters of mutual and national interest. Recalling our current cooperation underpinned by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on By-Elections and given our collective commitment to regime change that will usher in a better life for all; aware of the dire need for
all opposition parties to work together; committed to taking clear and concrete steps towards achieving opposition unity and strengthening the people’s project; the NECs agreed on the following principles to mark our relationship going forward:
1. That the BPF shall with immediate effect become a member of the UDC with equal representation in the UDC NEC as other affiliates.
2. That the parties will establish working streams to work on the constitution and policies by the 28th September 2022.
3. That all affiliates of the UDC will submit draft constitutions to enable amendment of the existing one by the 30th August 2022.
4. That constituencies and wards allocation will be looked into immediately after the release of the Delimitation Commission Report.
5. That further efforts be made to engage the Alliance for Progressives (AP) to join the coalition.
6. That the parties shall report back to their structures on these outcomes.
7. That the next meeting will be held on the 9th September 2022 to get progress reports from the working streams. [CAROLINE LESANG (BPF) and DUMA GIDEON BOKO (UDC)]
