Majombolo readies for the big boys

-

Following their promotion to the elite Botswana Football League, Selibe-Phikwe based Nico United are working towards fulfilling all the necessary requirements to be able to participate in the elite league.

Although the club is not new to the big stage, they return when a whole lot of things have changed.

“It’s a work in progress, we’ve been here before though we are a different set up from Players, technical team and management. We are currently working on transitioning and I believe we shall be ready when the season starts, not only to participate but compete,” Nico United mouthpiece, Ntibi Kedikilwe said in an interview this week.

“The difference is there but remember both First Division and Premier league are now run under 1 board. Yes, First Division

have some rules of licensing laxed here and there but we managed to comply with the new laws and we’ll continue learning,” he said.

Moreover, the team has been busy preparing on the field with a hectic pre-season schedule. “The whole idea of Pre -Season is to bring the boys to the right fitness levels; we also have trialists also to try them and let the Technical team assess if they fit well in their philosophy.”

So far, the team has played two tournaments and haven’t really been at their best but they believe pre-season games should show them both sides of the coin. “We’ve played two tournaments and haven’t done well in those tournaments, but the process is bearing fruits with every game being played. Our biggest let down was the previous one where we wished to have played

Township Rollers in the final to gauge ourselves for the premier league. Hopefully, we’ll secure a friendly with one Premier league team before the season starts.”

Majombolo have parted ways with their coach, Botshelo Pelokgosi and the hunt for another tactician has been looming large as the new season approaches. The team has also made a signing of Zimbabwean attacker, Kelven Ndebele from Caps United and they will be looking to make more additions.

“We have to be ready, despite lack of sponsorship and everything we believe we are ready to put up a good fight. A league is a Marathon, so we’ll continue beefing up where we lack. As you know you can do everything you believe is right and when the job starts you realise you are either good or bad enough and rectify with time.”
