VOLLEYBALL ON COMEBACK TRAIL
The Botswana Volleyball Federation Executive Committee held a three day retreat this past weekend where some issues plaguing the sport code were ironed out.
The BVF committee, led by president Tsoseletso Magang was recently voted into office with the hope to bring the sport code back to its glory days when they were a continental powerhouse. Through a statement this week, the BVF Media Relations Marketing officer, Joe Brown Tlhaselo said the three day retreat saw the governing body deliberating on areas of operation that need urgent attention towards getting the people’s sport back in full swing.
“Apart from the ongoing and promising efforts to lure the corporate world into various sponsorship partnerships with volleyball, the leadership has also resolved to formulate new structures to promote inclusion and also assist with areas that have been neglected in the running of the sport,” Tlhaselo said through a statement.“This was done in line with the constitution and the new structures, pending endorsement by Congress; it will include the Women’s Commission, the Medical Commission as well as the Athletes Commission that will be made up of players to represent the needs of athletes.”
Further information will be shared after involvement of relevant stakeholders, especially Congress.
Tlhaselo further explained: “The leadership is also at an advanced stage on talks with potential partners to have a BVF Cup competition before the end of the year, which will also be used as a qualifier for the CAVB Zone VI Club Championships scheduled for December.” Furthermore, the BVF spokesperson explained: “Various youth national teams are also in camp for the upcoming AUSC Region 5 Games scheduled for December in Malawi. The Under 20 women’s team is in camp at Maruapula School in Gaborone since 8th August, until August 19; while the men’s Under 20 team has been in training camp in Lobatse from 11th to 27th August.” Meanwhile, Tlhaselo explained that
the Region 5 teams will after that have weekend training camps until the BNSC camp for all codes in November.
Also in holiday school camp are student players from the four volleyball Centres of Sports Excellence being Okavango JSS, Radisele JSS, Mater Spei and LobSec. They will be in camp in Lobatse until August 27.
“The CAVB Zone VI Beach Volleyball Tour continues with Leg 4 in Zambia from 17th August to 22nd and 5 men’s teams as well as 4 women teams from Botswana have registered to participate,
among them the Africa Senior Nations Cup semi finalists, Sekao Jack and George Chiswaniso. Other decisions and suggestions put forward from the retreat will be passed through Congress for endorsement.”
