BOTSWANA RIDERS ROAR IN UGANDA
“This is the most important event in the African Motor sport calendar, this is where we get to see the best riders in Africa when it comes to Motor cross. We are going there to try our luck and we will do our best. We might bring something, for the past eight years our team has been competing in the championships and finishing amongst the top ten bracket in Africa,” she highlighted.
Mamaloukos stated that they have not set any targets for the team but reiterated that they will give it their best and finish in a better position than they did in previous championships.
She pointed out that they are expecting a tough challenge from the hosts, Uganda. South Africa are also expected to once again mount a serious challenge as they are the current reigning champions and will be out to retain their title with another win in 2022. Team captain, Kosman Mamaloukos expressed his gratitude to lead the team, adding that they are more than ready to compete and represent the country well in Uganda. “I am certain that we have developed both mentally and physically throughout the years through the training programs we’ve been having. I am certain that we are all going to compete and do our ultimate best; we are determined to fight from start to finish. My team has my full support and I have the utmost faith in them. We may be a small team but we carry a lot of talent, determination and will not to give up; we will do our ultimate best to make the country proud,” the team captain said.
The only female rider in the team, Tadiwa Tafa said she was confident that she will do well in the competition, stating that lack of female participants in the sports locally has forced her to compete with males whom she feels have given her good competitive preparations.
“This is why they call me a rose amongst the thorns because I am always with the boys and competing with them. It gives me more motivation to always do better, so when I come up against the girls it is sometimes light-work for me; so I am always pushing myself. I just want to make my country proud, even if I don’t make a podium finish I want to be proud of my performances but I am confident that I will do well,” buoyant Tafa shared. She said that she only missed two local races owing to an injury which she has recovered from adding that mentally she is ready to compete and challenge for honours in Uganda.
